Users encounter maintenance and care issues for components during operation of ultrapure water systems, with RO desalination membrane upkeep being particularly critical.RO water systems are also known as reverse osmosis water systems.Reverse osmosis water equipment primarily utilizes reverse osmosis membranes for water desalination. How should this equipment be maintained during daily use?
Below is a common chemical cleaning method for RO membranes in pure water systems:
Chemical Cleaning Method for RO Membranes

1.Enzyme detergent treatment:Using enzyme detergent effectively removes organic contaminants, particularly proteins and oils.Cleaning at 50°C-60°C enhances efficacy.Typically, after 10 days or two weeks of operation, perform a low-pressure cleaning with a 1%enzymatic detergent solution.Due to the low concentration of the detergent,a longer soaking time is required.
Citric acid solution:Continuously or cyclically flush the membrane with a 1%-2%citric acid aqueous solution under either high or low pressure. This method demonstrates excellent cleaning efficacy against Fe(OH)₃contamination.

2.Concentrated brine solution:Cleaning membranes with severe organic contamination using concentrated brine is effective. This is because high-concentration saltwater weakens inter-colloidal interactions, promoting colloidal aggregation into micelles.
3.Hydrogen peroxide solution:For example,dilute 0.5 L of 30%H₂O₂with 12 L of deionized water,then clean the membrane surface.This method is particularly effective against organic contamination.
4.Water-soluble emulsions are highly effective for cleaning membranes contaminated with oil and iron oxide, typically requiring 30-60 minutes of cleaning.
